DelfinGroup prevented 5 437 additional tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions in the previous year
By developing circular economy services and encouraging the recycling of goods, the fintech company DelfinGroup has prevented an additional 5 437 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions in the previous year, thus covering the yearly emissions of 1 316 Latvian residents, as stated in the Sustainable Corporate Governance or ESG Report 2022 by DelfinGroup.
The report shows that the company’s circular economy network Banknote has sold more than 70 thousand pre-owned and slightly pre-owned goods in the past year, thus diminishing the production of new goods and their circulation, as well as their impact on the environment.
By developing a circular economy principle, DelfinGroup provides not only the sale of pre-owned and slightly pre-owned goods but also the purchase of these goods, giving people an opportunity to easily sell goods that they no longer use but can be used by others. Company specialists evaluate these goods and, if necessary, damage is repaired, thereby providing a guarantee.
“In the last year, DelfinGroup has continued its rapid business development, one of the main factors being the promotion of responsible activity. We aim to secure easy financial solutions while simultaneously developing the circular economy practice and caring for a sustainable economy and society. Thanks to our circular economy business model, people can do good for society and the environment and have financial gain by acting responsibly. I am delighted to be able to develop a service where the interests of all sides come together so well,” says Didzis Ādmīdiņš, Chairman of the Management Board of DelfinGroup.
Following the European Union’s initiative towards climate neutrality by 2050, DelfinGroup is actively involved in creating a greener Europe by gradually using energy made from renewable sources in their business. Last year the company’s central office was supplied with only green electricity, thus decreasing emissions related to electricity use down to 0; however, starting from 1 April of this year, green energy solutions were introduced in 45 Banknote branches.
The company has been financially supporting many vulnerable social groups for several years by actively engaging in the shaping of a sustainable society and encouraging inclusivity, equality and welfare. In the previous year, DelfinGroup supported the Association of Senior Communities in Latvia to improve opportunities for seniors, purchased a velo spiroergometer for the VSIA Children’s Hospital, and supported families in need. The company also actively supports Ukraine, both its defenders and the residents of the country, who have suffered in the war or were forced to become refugees. DelfinGroup has donated over 250 thousand euros to the Children’s Hospital Foundation, the foundation Entrepreneurs for Peace and the TEV association. DelfinGroup support for the Association of Senior Communities in Latvia and the TEV association continues in 2023.
For last year’s performance in the area of corporate social responsibility the company received the Institute for Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility’s award Sustainability Index 2023 in the gold category, which confirms the company’s systematic and strategic approach to the work environment, the environment, good governance and other key aspects of sustainability.
